Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Visits Bayview Yards

April 25, 2018

It was a privilege to welcome the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, to Bayview Yards on April 25, 2018. Our Prime Minister took the time to meet with entrepreneurs and firms that are leveraging the collective capabilities, programs and services available through Ottawa’s one-stop business acceleration shop to catalyze their growth, commercial success and economic impact. We were proud to showcase Ottawa innovators who are creating novel products, high quality jobs and economic impact.

From the Invest Ottawa incubator, to MadeMill, our advanced manufacturing and digital media laboratory managed by prototypeD, the Global Cybersecurity Resource Program (GCR) managed by Carleton University and The Growcer Agri-Tech Innovation Pod, our Prime Minister engaged innovators, entrepreneurs and employees one-on-one, and experienced many of the technologies under development.
He was joined by national and local entrepreneurial champions including His Worship Jim Watson, Mayor of Ottawa; the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change; several Ottawa elected officials and leaders, as well as the sponsors and Boards of Directors for Bayview Yards and Invest Ottawa.
Located in the heart of Bayview Yards, GCR is equipping high growth cybersecurity companies with the skills, resources and linkages required to develop novel products that address key security challenges, meet private and public sector needs, and capture global markets. MadeMill enables local entrepreneurs to design and manufacture proof-of-concept prototypes, accelerating product development and commercialization. This helps to demonstrate a new technology is sound, helping to increase the customer, market and investment-readiness of an early-stage company.
GCR, MadeMill and Bayview Yards help catalyze the growth and success of Ottawa entrepreneurs and firms by working with key partners such as Invest Ottawa, lead economic development agency for Canada’s Capital, and leveraging critical funding from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
During the Prime Minister’s visit, leaders from these organizations were joined by Bruno Couillard, President and CTO of Crypto4A, an Ottawa cyber firm that has benefited directly from the support of GCR, MadeMill and Invest Ottawa. This reinforces the power of collaboration and impact achieved through Ottawa’s one-stop business acceleration shop.
Sincere thanks to our Prime Minister for taking the time to meet our community and demonstrate why Ottawa is one of the greatest tech hubs in the world.
